Veterans Day

While our focus here at sleepy BoaterRated Central is always on enhancing the recreational experience of boaters like you, every so often we are given reason to reflect on what makes much of what we do possible.  Today offers a specific reason to reflect on those that offer to serve their fellow Americans in the military.

There are lots of festivities planned for today that honor our military veterans, we hope that everybody takes some time to join in.  Not only is much of it a good time, but the folks that have served and are serving appreciate the occasional outpouring of love.

There are two organizations that spring to our minds that are in keeping with BoaterRated’s focus.  One is Boat4Vets.com up in Michigan.  They organize boating outings for veterans and have for the past few years.  See slide shows of their previous outings here, it looks like a gas with everybody having a great time!  It’s a great idea, maybe stop in if you’re in the area?  Or maybe get some folks together in your own area and pull something similar off in your own harbor?  Give Mike a call or email, I bet he’s willing to share some ideas!

Another that caught our attention is Boats4Heros.com, a part of the Helping Hometown Heroes Foundation.  Their activities tie in with our earlier post regarding boat donations.  They’re based in Maryland and have a well-designed site that will help you help our military veterans in numerous ways.  Their focus is on helping wounded veterans adjust to civilian life and they have many activities that are worthy of support.

Whatever you find yourself doing today and this weekend, please take a moment to reflect upon and honor those who are prepared to give their all for our freedom.  Thanks, and enjoy!
