You can sense the excitement in the air! Lots of 2012 boat shows are set to kick off around the country (New York is under way). If you already own a boat and you’re happy with it, you may ask yourself whether it’s worth heading to a boat show in your area. After all, boat show tickets can cost anywhere from 10 to 30 bucks, and once you’re at the show, you’re likely to be asked to fork over a hefty sum to provision yourself and your family.
If you’re trying to find a justification for attending a boat show, or just need to rationalize your desire to go, here are 3 reasons we think are worth considering:
- Get to know your local boat dealers: It’s a great idea to become familiar with the top boat dealers in your area. Local dealers and brokers nearly always exhibit at regional boat shows. There may come a time in the future when you’ll want to trade your current boat for a different or a newer model, or maybe just learn about the newest improvements or latest bells and whistles on your current craft. Knowing the boat dealers in your area can help you make an informed decision about where to get help selling or improving your old boat and/or buying your new one. Stop by vender booths, introduce yourself, and pick up the cards of area salespeople. Those will be good contacts when you’re ready to make your next move.
- Sign up for marine business mailing lists: I know what you’re thinking – the last thing you need is more junk
mail in your inbox. But lots of regional marine businesses, including boat dealerships, send out occasional newsletters to their mailing list that include great special offers. Many times the only way to find out about the offer is to be on the mailing list. If you decide later that you don’t want to receive the mail, it’s easy to simply hit the “unsubscribe” link. That link is required by law, so don’t worry about having trouble getting off a list.
- Dream a little! Truthfully, isn’t this what boat shows are all about?! Sure, you own a boat and you and your family are happy with it. But a boat show gives you the opportunity to see what’s out there and dream “what if?” Take the time to walk the docks at your nearest boat show this weekend. When you get that winning lottery ticket, you’ll be ready!
If you’re attending a boat show, let us know by posting something to our Facebook page or by signing into BoaterRated and “checking into” the appropriate event on the BoaterRated events page. And if you decide to trade in that older boat and buy a new one, be sure to tell others about your experience with your regional boat dealers by posting a review on BoaterRated.com! Enjoy the show!
