Why You Should Have a Boat (Despite the Lean Economic Times)

When the economy isn’t all that we hope, we have to make hard choices. Providing for our families and meeting our basic needs is the top priority. Depending on our circumstances, some of us are struggling even to fulfill this primary obligation. For those of us fortunate enough to have some stability in our income situation, we’re still very cautious with our money. We’ve all learned that we need to be prepared for the worst.

So why, with all the challenges many of us have just to make ends meet these days, do we think you should have a boat? The answer is simple. Life is too short to wait for better times. For those of us with a deep connection to boating and the water, having access to a boat isn’t a frivolous luxury. Boating provides us with a means to exercise a precious inalienable right: the pursuit of happiness.

Boating with the kids is one of the best bonding experiences we can have!

For boaters like us, nothing can be a substitute for time spent with friends and family on the water. Watching television, playing video games, walking around the mall; none of those things can come close to replacing hours spent baiting our kid’s hooks or watching the grin appear on their faces as they bounce over the boat’s wake in a tube. Few things are better than the memories we build with loved ones on the boats we use, be it fishing, waterskiing, tubing, sailing, or hanging out at the local sandbar. For those of us who are parents, we know that our children will grow up fast and that there’s no better time than the present to bond with them through boating activities. Moments we spend on the water with our spouse, our parents, or our siblings become cherished memories that last a lifetime. Boating helps us write stories together with the ones we love, and these are the stories that mean the most to us when many others have faded.

If you’ve put off boating because of current economic conditions, we encourage you to think of creative ways to lower the costs of boating so that you can get back to doing what you love. There are plenty of good, inexpensive used boats on the market to fit any budget. Who knows; there could very well be neighbors in your area who own a boat and would be happy to take you and your family out for a day on the water if you offer to contribute towards fuel or other expenses. We created BoaterRated.com to help boaters like you get free access to valuable research tools that can save you money on things like boat maintenance and repairs, boat rentals, and all things related to the boating lifestyle. We have more great ideas on the drawing board that we hope will help you in other ways to keep on boating, even in these tough times.

Stay tuned, keep on boating, and share your experiences on BoaterRated.com to help your fellow boaters!
